Single
Follicle Hair Transplant Surgery
It is a simple surgical
procedure which is done by removing a strip of hair bearing scalp
from the back or sides of the head where hair growth is permanent
and not affected by Dihydrotestestosterone (DHT).
A doctor or medical
staff member then divides the hair bearing scalp into grafts. These
grafts can vary in size but include: follicular (most common) micro,
mini and sometimes even maxi size grafts.
Once divided into
grafts, a doctor or staff member will prepare the recipient area
of your hair loss affected region for graft implantation. Tiny incisions
are made with a surgical instrument in the recipient area which
is where your scalp will "receive" the grafts. Receptor
sites are made in these types.
In the hairline area
they are created using the titanium needles, these receptor sites
can accept only single hairs behind the hairline, and depth controlled
titanium micro punches are used to create a receptor site that can
accept two-or three-hair follicular units.
In
the thinning area, special micro needles are used to avoid damage
to the existing hair.
The procedure time
depends upon the number of grafts required; usually a procedure
for a thousand grafts takes 2-3 hours. 1,500 grafts take about 3-4
hours. If more than 2,000 are required the procedure would take
about 5-6 hours.
Most of the transplanted hair goes through a healing phase of two
months after that the hair starts growing at the same rate as your
non-transplanted hair. The average rate of growth is half an inch
per month.
The transplanted
hair is permanent. They will continue to grow for the rest of your
life, because they have different genetic makeup than the already
lost hair and are genetically permanent.
